Voice alarm · iPhone & Android

The alarm clock that speaks.

Every alarm plays the same generic beep — the one you learned to dismiss in your sleep. Not Bed plays a recording you choose, and it rings for real: over the lock screen, and even with your phone on silent.

Free to download. iPhone requires iOS 26 or later.

ALARM 6:30 Mom Snooze Stop

It isn't a custom ringtone.
It's a real alarm clock.

Dozens of apps promise to play any sound you like. Almost all of them schedule notifications — and phones mute notifications that fire in quick succession. They are a novelty. They do not wake anyone up.

Rings on silent

Not Bed uses the operating system's own alarm engine — AlarmKit on iPhone. It cuts through silent mode, exactly like the clock app that came with your phone.

Full screen over the lock

Not a banner that appears and slides away. The native alarm screen takes the whole display, with snooze and stop where your thumb expects them.

Survives a restart

If the phone reboots at three in the morning, your alarms rebuild themselves. Tested on real devices, not only in a simulator.

Three steps, once.

After that you just go to sleep.

A beep is a demand.
A voice is a message.

Most people meet Not Bed as an alarm clock and keep it for something else. An alarm tone carries no information: it tells you that something mattered at two o'clock, never what. Once the alarm can speak, the reminder arrives carrying its own reason.

Get up, you have the early train.

The ordinary case, in a voice you cannot sleep through.

Blue folder. Do not leave without it.

Recorded the night before, when you still remembered why it mattered.

Call the clinic before they close for lunch.

The reminder that says what it is for, so you do not have to reconstruct it.

Medication — the white box, two tablets.

Instructions travel with the trigger instead of living in your head.

The voice does not have to be yours. Hand the phone to whoever you want doing the waking, and record them. On iPhone you can also import audio you already have — a voice message you never deleted, a recording from someone far away. Importing is on iPhone for now; on Android you record in the app.

Your recordings never leave your phone.

No server. No sign-up, no email, no password.

Recordings stay in your phone's memory — and, if you turn sync on, in your own iCloud, in a space only you can reach. We cannot listen to them either: they simply never reach us. No ads, no trackers, no analytics.

Why this matters more here than in other apps: we are asking you to record the voice of someone inside your home. That audio should not travel through anyone's server — including ours.

Free forever if one alarm is enough.

The subscription is for people who need more than one — and most people do, the first weekend they want to sleep in.

Questions

Does it really ring on silent?

Yes. Not Bed uses the alarm engine built into the operating system — the same one behind your phone's own clock app — which is allowed to play through silent mode. On iPhone that is AlarmKit, and it is why the app requires iOS 26: that is the release where Apple opened it up.

Will it work on my phone?

On iPhone you need iOS 26 or later. On earlier versions the system does not let an app create a real alarm, and we would rather not promise what we cannot deliver. On Android the app is available on Google Play.

On Android, the alarm screen doesn't appear over my lock screen.

Android needs one extra permission for that: Display over other apps. Without it, some phones play the alarm but leave the screen locked, so you hear the voice without seeing the stop and snooze buttons. Not Bed shows a shortcut straight to that setting on its own Settings screen, under notifications. Grant it once and the full alarm screen appears from then on.

What if the phone restarts overnight?

Your alarms rebuild themselves. It is one of the cases we test on real devices, with both repeating and one-off alarms.

Can I use audio I did not record in the app?

On iPhone, yes: you can import from Files, iCloud Drive or a messaging app, and the audio is converted to the app's format and trimmed to the first thirty seconds. On Android importing is not available yet — recordings are made inside the app.

Can you listen to my recordings?

No. There is no server of ours for them to go to. If you turn sync on they go to your own iCloud, which we have no access to.

How many languages does the app speak?

Twelve: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Chinese, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish — plus Hindi on Android. The app follows your phone's language.

Can I trust it for something important?

Every alarm clock depends on the phone's system. We test a great deal, but the honest advice is the same we would give for any alarm: for the morning where being late is expensive, keep a second, independent alarm.
